Fear of Vomiting Hypnosis
Emetophobia or fear of vomiting, firstly develops as an extreme reaction to the unpleasantness of being sick, and is often brought on or triggered by a stressful period of illness, such as food poisoning or stomach flu.
Nobody likes being sick, but some people have a genuine phobia of this natural bodily function. This fear can have an adverse affect on both the phobic individual and their family and friends, impacting on their quality of life and ability to function normally.
The onset of emetophobia does not necessarily mean a sufferer has to vomit themselves in order to experience associated anxiety or panic. It may arise in a situation where someone else is sick either in person or even on the television or in a photograph. It may be an association with the sight or smell of vomit which activates their anxious feelings and reactions.
Much like any other phobia, this fear can cause physical symptoms such as: shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, heart palpations and trembling. The panic is a distressing experience, but the further effect is that most sufferers will avoid any situation where vomiting may remotely be involved, no matter how small the connection.
They may avoid social gatherings where alcohol is present, such as a wedding ceremony or a birthday party, as they are afraid drinking too much alcohol will make them nauseous and unwell. They might even decide against meeting someone at the cinema because they have been told that a minor scene involves vomit, or they may avoid taking public transport to meet a friend in case they experience travel sickness.
There are more extreme examples of how an individual’s daily life may be compromised by having emetophobia. Professional goals may be put on hold, or they may be unable to maintain a long term occupation. They might be reluctant to become pregnant to avoid inevitable morning sickness, or ritualistically prepare their own food in an unusual way to eradicate potential contamination and ensure freshness to avoid the possibility of getting sick. This may create difficulty between them and their families and partners, or even cause embarrassment if they are ridiculed for their actions.
There is no shame in emetophobia, it is a recognised phobia. However, when emetophobia prevents you from operating as you would like in your daily life, or you just do not want to go through the stress anymore, hypnosis can help you to deal with and overcome your phobia.
The Advanced Hypnosis London hypnotherapists work with your subconscious mind to naturally and effectively remove you of the negative associations and worries you have concerning vomiting.
