Hypnosis To Break Bad Habits
A habit can be an endearing aspect of somebody’s personality and mannerisms, and indeed often people are remembered for their habits as it becomes a part of their unique identity.
It might be excessive use of a particular phrase or word, or an eccentric action or manner of how we conduct ourselves in front of others or in private. No matter what it is, a habit is essentially something particular to us, although many people may share a similar habit or personality quirk.
What may begin as a guilty pleasure or tic can, however, develop over time into an automated routine, which we are either unaware of or unable to stop. Although the majority of the time such quirks are harmless, depending on the nature of the habit, the individual’s behaviour may develop into something that negatively impacts on their quality of life.
When we think about bad habits, it does not always relate to an addiction to an illegal substance, or indulging in inappropriate or dangerous conduct. Bad habits can simply relate to a negative or unusual behavioural pattern which we feel compelled to do regularly. Common examples of this are nail biting or thumb sucking; it might be something you used to do in your childhood, and has only remained consistent or intensified throughout adulthood.
In some extreme cases, however, these compulsions can develop into restrictive coping mechanisms or dangerous, thrill-seeking compulsions. These can spiral out of control and may be difficult to manage before it is too late, even if you have the intention to quit the bad habit.
This is because we often subconsciously associate our regular behaviour with comfort, safety or normality, and would feel anxious to stop it. Sometimes our bad habits are a way to cope with stress, unpleasant memories, or emotional problems such as anxiety.
Habits can be triggered by specific stimuli, perhaps the influence of a negative person in your life that you do not get along with, a particular environment or place, or by a situation you find particularly stressful such as during a domestic argument or when a work deadline is approaching.
It can be difficult to break these cycles independently because the attachments we have to such habits are so strong. Everybody is different and it may take some time to identify and understand the cause of these habits.
However, our Advanced Hypnosis London hypnotherapists can help you by changing your subconscious perceptions and attitudes, addressing the psychological reasons why you have developed your habit, and strengthening your willpower and ability to resist the complusions using effective and powerful behavioural techniques alongside deeper level hypnotherapy.
Overcoming your urges to succumb to your habitual behaviour will make you a happier, more confident individual, able to handle stressful situations comfortably and confidently.
